Courtney and James - Engagement

Despite trying to throw her off for a week with diversionary tactics, when James proposed to Courtney over chocolate chip pancakes she totally knew it was coming. See, they know each other well enough that when James called out “sick” from work, she knew something was up. That’s my favorite kind of couple to work with, the ones who know each other so well and feel so comfortable together shooting them as a pair is like shooting one person… except more fun :)

Courtney and James are goofy and sweet, and did I already say fun? Haha. Plus, they like each other so much that when I said “talk amongst yourselves” while I adjusted some settings on my camera, I actually had to interrupt their conversation (which was a “deep philosophical discussion” ;-) about whether park rangers had a specialty in park policing or whether they were just beat cops… or something like that, LOL) to tell them that we were moving to another location. In addition to all of that - they’re RED SOX fans (woo hoo!) so I think I may have just found my new BFFs.

Stay tuned for more Courtney and James … their wedding is in July! (Minus the brass band, sorry mom!)

Travel: London and Vienna

Ok. For anyone who does not know, my husband Phil has a really cool job. (Well, not as cool as mine - but still ;-)) This job requires him to travel a lot - which in turn allows me to travel a lot too! We’ve gotten to go to some pretty cool places in the States (Orange County, Chicago, Portland, Sun Valley to name just a few) and most recently to London and Vienna. I always have my camera with me (whether it’s my big camera, my point and shoot, or the camera on my iPhone - which is actually pretty decent!) so I’ve got pictures from across the globe. Since traveling is almost as big a part of my life as my job, I think it’s only fair I share those pictures with you guys (my loyal readers - awww!) as well. So here you go - Europe, Emily Jackson style ;-)

First thing’s first - meet Phil! Hiiiiii Phil!

We only got to spend about 36 hours in Vienna (Phil had to present at a conference there in the middle of our stay in London) so I didn’t get to see a lot, but it was fun just walking around the streets and checking out the shops and the local scene:

I did get to see a protest - that was pretty cool! (Please don’t ask what they were protesting though - none of their signs had pictures, and they were shouting in German… not a language I speak ;-)):

After Vienna it was back to London, where I played dutiful tourist. I saw everything - from the Tower of London, to Piccadilly Circus, to double decker busses - you name it, I saw it.

Hehe - that’s my American husband, eating a hot dog in London :-D

Big Ben (did you know that’s actually the name of the clock in the tower, and not the tower itself? I didn’t!) and the Houses of Parliament:

I loved looking at the London Eye (the ferris wheel in the background) but I’m terrified of heights, so we didn’t ride it. Maybe next time.

View of and from the Tower Bridge:

We both thought the Tower of London was reeeeally cool, and touring the inside of the Tower was one of our favorite things that we did:

Look, it’s me! I really was there! (Yes it’s true - sometimes I let Phil hold the camera ;-))

Married: Lani and Dan

Lani and Dan were married in Acapulco back in January, but due to a minor dress disaster they ran out of time for as many pictures together as they would have liked. On Sunday they had their friends and family gathering for an at-home reception to celebrate their marriage, and it seemed like a perfect time to grab a few pictures of them together - as well as some bridal portraits for Lani.

It’s a lot of fun to work with a couple after the wedding, after all the jitters and stressors are gone, and Lani and Dan fit right into this mold. I had a great time exploring the grounds of the Briar Patch Inn with these two, looking for cool locations to shoot. Lani was a trooper, in high heeled boots (OMG check out the boots, they’re awesome!) she managed to keep her dress out of the mud - it made it through this experience unscathed at least :)

Wedding: Erin and Dan

I’ll be the first to admit - when Erin and Dan told me that they wanted to get married outside in March, a little warning bell went off in my head. You see, I’m from Vermont - where in March, there’s still about ten feet of snow on the ground. But that definitely wasn’t so in Myersville on Saturday, where Erin and Dan proved my little warning bell wrong. I woke up Saturday morning to a beautifully sunny spring day, and my first thought was “what a great day to get married!” And oh, it was :)

I knew when I first met these two that their wedding was going to be a blast, and it did not disappoint - any party that end with shots and Quarters is my kind of shindig!

Congratulations Erin and Dan - I hope you two are having a great time in Taiwan and I wish you nothing but happiness in the future :)
